Booking an Appointment

Please phone 01 287 4275 early in the day when making an appointment. Kindly state the reason for your visit eg: vaccinations, cervical check, ear syringing etc. If you are unable to keep your appointment please inform us as soon as possible. Consultation times are 9 am -12 noon and 2.30 pm – 5 pm. Each appointment is 15 minutes. Should you require an extended consultation for multiple medical issues please state at the time of booking.

Out of Hours

If you need medical advice from 6 pm to 8 am Monday to Friday or at any time (24 Hours) during weekends and Bank Holidays please call 01 223 4500 EDOC Cooperative. This is based in the Outpatients Department of St Michael’s Hospital in Dun Laoghaire. This service is provided by local GPs on a rota. An appointment is required. If you have a medical emergency call 999 or 112.

House Calls

House calls are generally reserved for the very ill. A more comprehensive examination can frequently be carried out in the surgery.

New Patients

We are currently taking on a limited number of new patients. Applicants to become a patient must have an address within Greystones or Delgany and not have a doctor within that catchment area. See FAQs below for more information and how to apply.

Prescribing Policy

Some medications require a 6 or 12 monthly review or blood tests. In such cases you will be required to make an appointment.
In conjunction with best practice guidelines, we actively discourage prescribing benzodiazepines or sleeping tablets on an ongoing basis.

Ordering Your Prescription

Greystones Medical Centre now operates a policy of accepting prescription requests in written form. The easiest way to do this is on this website.

Alternatively, you may pick up or print a prescription request form and post or drop it to us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Appointments are available Monday to Friday. We are closed at the weekends and on bank holidays.

Our earliest appointment times are 8:00am for a Nurse and 8:30am for a Doctor.

Our last appointment times are 4:30pm for a Nurse and 4:45pm for a Doctor.

A standard appointment is 10-15 mins and there is an additional charge if the appointment runs over. Should you require an extended consultation for multiple medical issues please state at the time of booking.

Certain appointments such as, but not limited to, Minor Surgery, 6 Week Postnatal Check, Mental Health, Mirena Coil / Implanon and Power of Attorney will require an extended consultation and be charged accordingly.

If you are accepted as a patient of the Medical Centre, you will be asked to complete a registration form and you may be asked to make an initial appointment to see the doctor.

In order to provide for your care we need to collect and keep information about you and your health in your personal medical record. The information will be used to create your personal medical record on our computer systems.

Our practices are consistent with the Medical Council guidelines and the privacy principles of the Data Protection Acts.

Applying to become a patient or submitting the registration form does not guarantee acceptance to the Medical Centre. A member of our team will contact you as soon as possible to advise if we currently have space on our patient lists. If you are accepted as a new patient and have a chronic medical condition or take regular medications, we request that you arrange a registration consultation with one of our doctors as soon as possible.

Prescriptions are only available for patients of Greystones Medical Centre.

Repeat prescriptions can be ordered through our website.

First time prescriptions require an appointment with your GP.

We carry out blood tests between 8am and 12pm Monday to Friday. An appointment is needed for all blood tests.

Fasting blood tests are normally required for blood sugar, cholesterol, lipid, iron and basic or comprehensive metabolic panel tests.

Fasting requirements vary slightly depending on the test but the safe rule is nothing except water for 12 hours prior to the test.

If you are waiting on blood test results we will normally contact you by phone or text message within 2 weeks. If you have not heard from us within 2 weeks please call the Medical Centre on 01 287 4275.

If you only require a cert for your employer this is known as a Medical Cert or Sick Cert and can be arranged by booking an appointment with the doctor.

If you require a cert to claim illness benefit this is known as a Social Welfare Cert or E-Cert and can be arranged by booking an appointment with the doctor.

We will require your PPS number for E-Certs which are sent electronically by us to The Department of Social Welfare.

You will need to complete an IB1 form to claim illness benefit. The form can be completed online at MyWelfare.ie or copies are available at our reception.

If you require an extension to any of the above certs please send your request by email to [email protected] allowing a minimum 3-5 day turnaround. We will contact you if we require further information.

Urine samples may be dropped into the Medical Centre once a follow up telephone appointment has been made in advance with the doctor or nurse practitioner.

Urine samples will only be accepted in the correct labelled container available from our reception.

There is a minimum administration charge of €20 but this may be higher depending on the form required.

Receipts are issued at the time of payment. Please keep all of your receipts as there is a charge for annual statements and reissuing receipts.
